1. Why running water matters
A cat's ancestors came from arid environments and are naturally wary of "stagnant" water — still water is easily seen as unclean. Running water (with bubbles and circulation/filtration) significantly increases how much cats and dogs drink on their own, which is especially important for urinary-tract health — and a key part of keeping your cat hydrated in summer.
2. Four core things to check when buying
- Filter structure: Prefer multi-layer filtration (coconut-shell activated carbon + ion-exchange resin) — it effectively removes chlorine, odor and softens water. Plain cotton filters have limited effect.
- Pump quality: The pump is the weak point for lifespan. Prefer a ceramic-axis or low-noise magnetic pump for longer, quieter continuous operation.
- Ease of cleaning: The tank, filter slot and outlet pipe must all come apart for hand-washing. Machines with complex structures and many gaps breed biofilm over time.

3. How often to change the filter
